Here is the honest answer.
If you live in Calpe, Jávea, Dénia, or anywhere in the Marina Alta, you will hear Valencian spoken around you — on shop signs, in local announcements, between neighbours. It is a co-official language in the Valencian Community alongside Spanish, and in some inland villages it is spoken more than Spanish.
But here is the practical reality: Spanish (Castilian) is understood and spoken by absolutely everyone in this area, without exception. Learning Spanish first is always the right foundation — it opens all of Spain, Latin America, and 500 million speakers worldwide. Once your Spanish is solid, Valencian context can be woven into lessons for those who want it. But the sequence is always Spanish first.
Why Spanish, not Valencian, to start
Spanish is universally understood across Spain and gives you the broadest possible foundation. Every doctor, official, shopkeeper, and neighbour across the country communicates in Spanish. It is the practical and logical first step.

No specialist software is needed; lessons use a simple video call you will already know how to use. If there is any uncertainty about the setup, we resolve it together before the first session.
I have picked up some Spanish from living here — do I start from zero?
Not at all. Years in Spain means something has stuck, even if it does not feel like a lot. We assess through natural conversation in the first session — no test — and find exactly where you are. We build from what you have, fill the gaps, and never waste time on things you already know.
What if I travel back to the UK or Germany for part of the year?
No interruption at all. Online lessons work from anywhere with a stable connection — Spain in summer, the UK or Germany in autumn, wherever you find yourself.
